“Um, okay. Thanks.” I’m not sure if he’s mad at me or himself or all of the above, but the edge in his voice is obvious.

His eyes flit to me for just a second before locking on the sweatshirt I’m wearing. Is he mad about that? I did buy some clothes in town so I don’t need to wear his clothes anymore, but I didn’t expect this would piss him off. “I’ll be working in the shop today.”

“Okay...” Where the hell is his attitude coming from? Is this about last night?

“You’re welcome to watch television or read a book in here.” He stands up and pats his legs as if wiping off nonexistent dust.

“Fine.” I don’t want him to see the hurt or confusion on my face so I quickly stand up and stomp into the kitchen. I grab the plate of food he’s left out for me and sit in a huff, wishing I had something else to eat just to keep him from knowing how much I’m relying on him for everything.

He moves into the kitchen soon after and sighs loudly. “Listen, I wasn’t trying...”

“It’s whatever. I’ll just hang out in here today. It’s fine. You won’t have to look at me at all.”

Travis’s expression quickly morphs as he realizes he messed up.
